Can't get rid of the Sequoia upgrade notification badge in Sonoma?

Hello. As a visually impaired Mac user, I have to collaborate with a private program called Finale, so I have to block Mac updates! As my composition instructor would, I am preparing hard for my appointment as a composer at Seoul National University next year. Since Seoul National University professors also use Finale, it is necessary to collaborate with these professors! However, as a visually impaired person, the only program I can access is Logic, but since 99% of composers, including university professors, use Finale, I will eventually have to install Finale as well. Finale 27 is the latest version, but it is no longer being developed, and its service will be discontinued starting next year, so I have no choice but to use MacOS Sonoma.

In other words, the program only supports Sonoma, which is really…

I wanted to turn off the Sequoia upgrade notification, so I looked at various blogs and followed their instructions!

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0; killall Dock

This is what happens to all the blogs that were uploaded in 2020 and 2021!

I tried this command in the terminal, disabled automatic updates in the system settings, and even rebooted, but the problem was not solved at all! What on earth is the cause? Is it impossible to turn it off at all with this command in Sonoma? I wonder if the method of applying the command is different for each MacOS version and Mac model. Can you help me? This really annoys me all day long!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.7

Impossible.

Wasting your time

Indeed.

What on earth is the cause?

Can't turn off that badge.

It's been impossible in any version of the operating system for several years.

I wonder if the method of applying the command is different for each MacOS version and Mac model. Can you help me? This really annoys me all day long!

You'll have to get used to it. I'm afraid you're an outlier here. Upgrades have become an addiction. People will hack up their old, incompatible systems just so they can run Sequoia. They will install Sequoia on day 1, with zero thought about whatever ancient, incompatible software they happen to be running.

Someone like you who pays attention to such things, thinks, and does research before taking action is an aberration in the modern world.

Furthermore, you should strongly consider keeping a good Time Machine backup if you haven't already done so. And take the time now to make a bootable USB installer for your Sonoma operating system. One of the recent "bugs" that Apple introduced is actually a forced upgrade. When you see that notification in the upper right hand corner of the window, be very, very careful. Do not click the "X"! You must click "details" or "info" or whatever. It will open a web page detailing all the wonderful things you are missing in Sequoia. Close the web page. Continue with your work. If you do anything else, it may go ahead and upgrade you to Sequoia. Then you'll need that bootable USB and backup. This happened to me.

Going forward, I recommend a new "test rig" machine where you can install Sequoia and being testing alternatives to Finale.

I have read reports that if this computer qualifies to run macOS 15.0 Sequoia

macOS Sequoia compatible Computers

The Notification of the upGrade will bug you not matter how the Software Update Applet is configured.

A possible way and IF you do not mind losing 14.54 GB of Empty Space

A Terminal command will manually download the Full Version of Sequoia

Placing a new Application in the Applications folder of this computer

It Will Not Launch unless you launch the " Install Sequoia App "

This may sort of Trick the Apple Servers to stop bugging the computer with the Notification

Terminal command below

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.0
