I have read the suggestions on the forum but these have not worked. I had moved a number of photos to my Mac from the iPhone.
I deselected the sync option as suggested in the forum , restarted iPhone but trash still greyed out for photos copied.
i am not sure what to try next.

Are you sure these as photos you moved TO your Mac FROM your iPhone?
Usually, the inability to delete is for photos FROM your Mac TO your iPhone.
Also, the solution for the usual problem is to repeat the sync with fewer photos selected, not to deselect the sync option itself.
And what happened when you try using the app Image Capture like I suggested to you in an earlier post?
Try using the app Image Capture that's in the Mac's Applications folder. You may be able to trash the unwanted pictures with that.

Mark, I have the same problem as Scott.
My iPhone Photo app greys out the delete icon whether I try to delete one or many photos. I have tried rebooting the phone and following the "official Apple Help" method - they don't help and I have run out of ideas too.
I intended to free up phone memory, so I copied my entire iPhone Photo file to my Mac and to an external storage drive. Now I can't delete the iPhone photos!!
