Backing up 3 different MacBook Airs with different processors in one drive
I have an M2 MacBook Air. My SSD is 1TB. One of my sons has an M3 MacBook Air. Don’t know the size of his SSD, but it’s probably 1TB. Another son has a 2020 Intel MacBook Air with an SSD of 512GB.
We recently discovered the hard way that we need to back up our MacBooks so they can be restored if they ever need to be erased. So I’m shopping for external drives. And boy, are they expensive. And SSDs are more expensive than HDDs, as you all undoubtedly know.
Two questions:
- if I get a single 4TB drive to back up all 3 MacBooks on, will it cause any conflicts or issues? Is it a bad idea for any reason? Because I’m thinking one 4TB drive is cheaper than 3 separate drives of 1TB/1TB/512GB or 1TB.
Also, is it okay to backup SSD computers on an HHD? Because it’s significantly cheaper.
