I have a two week old MacBook Pro M3 running Sequoia 15.0. At the top center of the screen is a black notch. Similar to what is at the top of the iPhone. I also have a Mac Studio also running Sequoia 15.0 that does NOT have this notch.
My question is what is it for, it seems to do nothing. Can I remove it? I've attached a photo of the screen:

The designers needed a place to put the Facetime camera, ambient light sensor and LED indicator. So they created a black “notch” at the top center of the screen to house those items. In some cases, this results in some application controls being “hidden” under the notch, a great frustration for many users.
Thanks BDAqua, I had not thought that there was a difference between the MacBook Pro screen and the Mac Studio screens. Makes sense.
