"There's a problem loading this content" on Apple TV 4K for family sharing with iTunes Extras

My parents purchased some movies including 101 Dalmations and Coco, which are available to me via Family Sharing. On my iPad I go into the TV app, Library, family sharing, and can watch them just fine.

My TV has an Apple TV 4K that is signed in to my account. When I try to access the movies I mentioned above, I get "there's a problem loading this content." I go into the TV app on the Apple TV 4K, then Library > Family Sharing > and select my dad's name.

My dad started looking into this, and found that the problem only occurs with movies that have an Extras menu. We tested this out with movies like Hackers and Ace Ventura, and they start playing without a problem. If the movie has an Extras menu, the menu comes up, but when you select Play to begin the movie, the "there's a problem loading this content" error appears.

We tried upgrading the Apple TV from tvOS 17.6.1 to 18.0, but that didn't fix the problem. Power cycling the device, by unplugging it, waiting a minute, and plugging it back in also didn't fix it. There's one more Apple TV that's signed in with my name, an Apple TV HD, and it too has the same problem -- I cannot play any shared movies that have Extras. The two Apple TV's that are signed in using my dad's account do not have this problem. He can play all of the movies just fine. We checked the Apple System Status page and Down Detector, and no issues are reported.

Has anyone seen this problem and been able to resolve it?

Just a quick update -- there's a workaround. If a movie has Extras:

  1. Select the movie you want to watch.
  2. Press and hold the clickpad button until a small menu appears.
  3. Select Play.

This bypasses the Extras menu and plays the movie directly. Not the most glamorous but it works. I'll take it. :)
