Why does my iPhone X have small bluetooth connection range?

Bluetooth by definition is short ranged. You need to be within 30 feet, 10 meters of the item you are connecting to.

Also, make sure there is no interference, like thick walls or metal plates or some other thing blocking the bluetooth signal.
