iOS 18.0 update causing SOS Mode
After updating my phone to iOS 18, I am now stuck in SOS mode. How do I get my cellular service to connect again?
iPhone 15, iOS 18

Not a Verizon issue. Everyone in my family who updated to 18 is stuck in SOS. My two sons sis not update to 18 and they are not have this issue. Their phones are working fine.
Not sure I should update until this is resolved
You won't be able to update the phone if SOS is displayed. Can you wait another few days? There will be another update with bug fixes from the update last week......(and probably another update in a few more weeks).
I was running iOS 17.7 on a iPhone 12 Max and during the day on 30 SEPT 2024, my iPhone went into the SOS mode all day. My wife has the same iPhone however is running iOS 17.6.1 and didn’t have the SOS issue. I updated to iOS 18 and the problem persisted. After work I was on my way to a Verizon Store near me (1800 hrs Eastern) and noted at a stop light that I had three bars, then four! Not sure what happened, yet I’ve not had the SOS issue since…
The SOS mode is really frustrating as once can’t receive calls, make “normal” calls and even had issues sending text messages to a non-iPhone…. ARGH! I hope to not experiance that ever again!
This is an issue with the SIM card being destroyed by the update. They are doing away with SIM cards and the updates will destroy them. You have to call Verizon or whoever your carrier is and have them reset the phone without the SIM card. Then you destroy the SIM card, not needed anymore. They told us this will happen to every phone we have when we do the update. If the 17 update didn’t do it, 18 will. Good times.
ATT same issue
my phone is stuck in sos mode as of monday september 30th at 8:30am
unacceptable.
Did you bother reading through this post as to why it may be happening?
Then tell your carrier that their service being down is not acceptable. This is not an Apple issue.
Verizon is experiencing a massive outage right now.
I hope there’s a fix soon. Getting calls from none iPhone users doesn’t work without WiFi calling on. Very disappointed.
Mines been stuck in “SOS” new iPhone 16 since Thurs Sept 26th here in PC,FL. Not happy. They say it’s from outage as well.
Didn’t mean to post that twice. Sorry
Not an Apple issue. It is a hurricane issue.
I’m on iOS 17.7 and having the same problem. I think it’s Verizon as there are also Android phones that are having the same issue rn
Massive outage at Verizon today.
I did not update to iOS 18 yet. Neither did my husband. I am stuck in SOS mode and he is not. Local news state it IS a Verizon problem. Not sure I should update until this is resolved
