iOS18 update-texting non apple users

I have an iPhone 14pro, since the 18 update, noticed I have just 1 non iPhone user that I text and it goes “undelivered” everytime. He can text me- as far as I know- no problem. But when I go to respond, I get the red “undelivered” prompt immediately. So then I select ‘send as text’ and it goes through. Not having this issue with other non iPhone users. The display shows the ‘RCS’ in the subject line & at the top for this non Apple user.

I can’t be the only one- I don’t see a setting option where I can change this though to stop this from happening is it something on his end? Very annoying

I have been having the same problem. I am also using a 14pro and noticed this same thing right after I updated yesterday. The only solution I can find is to set the entire phone to SMS only, but then iMessage is no longer active for my iPhone contacts. The phone used to be able to recognize non iPhone numbers and it would default to SMS when texting non iPhone users. I don't know that this issue is isolated to only one of my contacts that does not have iPhone. He is just the only one I have texted since updating.
