How do I get my new trackpad to copy and paste?

Just purchased a new iMac and trackpad and mouse. Cannot get the trackpad to copy and paste. Have not tried with the magic mouse yet.

Stedman1, I do not know how to program the trackpad--I find it very confusing. I just want to know some basic things such as the copy and paste which I use all the time. No message seems to pop up. Just nothing at all. I just got this new iMac and the trackpad as well as the mouse so I am quite overwhelmed at the moment with all the info coming at me and terms that are unknown by me. I think it is going to take time to figure all this out. I thank you for taking time to respond.
