After upgrading to iOS 18, CarPlay is crashing randomly

Me too... 2018 Mazda 3 Sport. It happens randomly but only once I send a text, iMessage or WhatsApp message. Apple Car Play disconnects and then I have to unplug my phone and plug it back in. Super annoying and unsafe, defeating the purpose of Apple Car Play! Wondering now if this is a Mazda issue as I see a lot of us with Mazda's are in the same boat.

I have tried all of the suggestions to resolve the issue and finally found the one to turn off Vocal Shortcuts. I do not have Vocal Shortcuts enabled and never have, so that is not a resolution for me.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I could use some. It would be nice if Apple was a help with this, but that is never the case.

Since downloading IOS 18, no one can hear me when I call them - or they hear me from very far away. I only sound normal if I switch to hand-held/speaker phone mode, which defeats the purpose of the hands-free Apple CarPlay system. I've tried most of the suggestions - none have worked - and I have never utilized Vocal Shortcuts - that feature is turned off. I own a 2019 Lexus UX and commute 90 minutes per day - I would really like Apple CarPlay to work. BTW, my maps function works just the same as before - just some things look different.

I have the same problem with my Lexus 2021. I can hear my caller through CarPlay but they cannot hear me and I have to use the speaker function on the phone. Called Apple and they were no assistance. Never had a problem until update. I also noticed that I’m not get vocalized map directions. It seems like there are enough complaints with various car models that it would appear to be a an Apple problem. One odd thing today: Called someone with android phone and they were able to hear me through the CarPlay. Apple users could not.

Yes! I thought it was just me, but since the recent update I have been having an ongoing issue with Car Play disconnecting. It often does this after sending a text, but also has dropped randomly from time to time and just did so while on a call. What a complete pain. I have tried every solution that I have seen online, including resetting the infotainment system. I hope Apple and Mazda can figure this out and get a fix. It is a complete pain and really makes Car Play only moderately functional.

I’m having this problem now with my brand new 2024 Nissan xtrail. I just updated my ios today to 18.1.1 version and my CarPlay won’t work properly. Can’t skip songs, can’t use Siri, can’t get phone calls anymore or text messages. I’m really really annoyed. I didn’t just upgrade my bloody car to have a dumb automatic iOS update go and mess my system up😭

I wish I knew if it was an Apple issue (in which case I would hope an iOS update would be forthcoming,) or a Mazda issue. I would really like to solve this but am not sure where to look for a solution. I may contact my local Mazda place or look online to see if it is a known issue. At the same time, my son has a Mazda which is one year newer than mine and has not had any problem

@plastipop — when you had this done to your Mazda, do you know if your software was outdated and that an update was needed? Or did they just override the existing software with a fresh install? Right now my Mazda shows that no software update is required.

Having the same issue since I upgraded to iOS 18 and was hoping that iOS 18.2 would fix the issue but it did not so who knows what’s going to happen maybe one day Apple will get it together and fix all this stuff

Yes, iOS 18 is very buggy where CarPlay is concerned. But I've always had problems with this phone (12 Pro) when it comes to connecting to my Toyota via wire.

While there are a host of issues, for me, there is this terrible LAG when talking on the phone. As an example, the timer for call duration does not update. I can be on the call for over a minute before the screen finally updates.

I find myself so very disgusted with the quality of iPhone these days. I understand that programming is farmed out, but Apple's QC is supposed to prevent things like this from happening.

Yes, it has been very hit and miss for me. It takes me a couple of miles of driving at every stoplight, trying to get it to work and then finally it starts working. It’s really quite a nightmare. I don’t like it anymore.

I can also confirm that I've tried all the solutions suggested here and none of them has fixed the problem for me.

I tried all the suggestions and it still doesn’t work no volume works (text, phone,Siri).. Music works… I will have to delete CarPlay I need my phone..

Thanks for your comment about your Mazda. Same issue here. There’s clearly an issue with iOS 18 + Mazda — so how do we get someone’s attention to address this?
