Why won't my AirPods connect to my iPad?

My right airpod wasn’t connecting so I looked it up and everyone was saying to reset them. Part of the process was that I needed to forget the device so I did but later on when I tried connecting them back, my iPad is picking them up but is saying make sure device is turned on and in range (also it never displays a white light even when I attempted to reset). I have tried everything and all the tips.
