WD My Passport Not Showing Up in Time Machine

I'm trying to backup my macbook to the WD My Passport 1tb and it's not showing up in the "add backup disk" section of Time Machine. When I click on it, it says "No Available Time Machine Destinations" even though the hard drive is plugged in, all the software is downloaded and my computer is fully updated to Sequoia 15.0. The hard drive's LED is lit up, my computer recognizes it as it let me download the software, but it just doesn't want to show up in the Time Machine spot. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, if anything, of it its just the hard drive that is the problem. This is my first time backing up my computer to this device. Please let me know if there is anything I could be doing wrong or anything that I could do to help it work!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.0

Not sure what your format is on the WD My Passport. If it is HFS+ it is no longer supported in Sequoia

My suggestion is reformat the drive for Sequoias file system APFS. If the drive is a HD and not a SSD it is advisable move to a SSD since its performance on mechanical hard drives is terrible. I mean, almost completely unusable.
