How can I ensure blocked emails are automatically deleted?

I block senders. The "blocked" icon comes up – both on that email AND any others I have already received from that sender.

In "Settings [Mail]" I have selected the option to send blocked senders to Trash.

This is not happening—all of the emails are still there in the Inbox, and those from blocked senders are marked as such, but they are NOT being placed in trash automatically—and it is very frustrating. I don't want my inbox so stuffed with junk that I miss something I wanted to keep in the process of clearing out the junk. The tools are (apparently) in place, but they do not seem to work. Come on, Apple!

Spammers change the email they use on a constant basis for spamming. You can block a email today and get the same spam tomorrow with almost the same spam subject Sure block the address and it goes into Trash. Why not just have it deleted. That is why I say blocking is pretty much useless. Now you have create a rule for every spam message you get. If it was just deleted it would save a a lot of time.
