Why does the App Store update removed apps on Mac?

This is a major pain in my backside. The app store keeps sending me updates for apps that I have removed from my Macbook. Can’t find a way to stop them. Do we not own our devices? If I just clicked update all I would be installing updates for apps that I removed. Any thoughts?

Bottom line? Yes, if you are referring to hardware, no, if you are referring to software. For the latter, you accepted a "use license" whether you realized it or not.

Any thoughts?

Yes ...

When the App Store continues to send updates for apps you've removed from your Mac, it's likely because remnants of the app still exist on your system or the app was downloaded under a different Apple ID.

Here are some things you can try to stop these updates:

  • Even if you've deleted an app, leftover files can remain. Use Finder to search for any related files in the following locations:
    • ~/Library/Application Support/
    • ~/Library/Preferences/
    • ~/Library/Caches/ Remove any remaining folders or files associated with the app.
  • Ensure that the app is entirely removed from the /Applications folder.
  • Open the App Store, go to the Purchased tab under your account. If the app shows as still being installed, click Hide to prevent updates from being tracked or notified.
  • If the app was downloaded using a different Apple ID, you'll continue to receive updates for it. You can sign out from the App Store using the incorrect Apple ID and sign back in with the correct one to resolve this issue.

You will never get a call from any user on this Support site. We don't have access to any of your personal information and actually we don't want it. All of us are users just like you. If you are looking for an AI response, Google may be the appropriate place to look, they also don't have a problem sharing your personal information, so you may get a phone call from them.

If you followed the steps provided by Tesserax, you would no longer be receiving the updates. Hiding the app in the App Store is the easiest solution. When viewing in the App Store, if would also be helpful to know if you see the Open, Get, or Cloud icon to download it. You can also provide the name of the app, and we may be able to advise the locations of the files to remove.

This is where you are wrong. I own a perpetual license for the software. There are no traces of the software in my system as I fully removed it. The App Store is sending updates for the app that I dowloaded from the App Store just because they think I still have the app. I don't. I removed it, scanned for traces and none exist.

I don't think so. A software license is still a software license, perpetual or not. Please carefully read or re-read the license agreement.

No, I won't call you and I don't have to prove it to you either. If you are going to be rude, don't expect fellow Apple-product users to be eager to assist you. Is that what you would expect AI to say?
