It was NOT automaticity downloaded. There was not an instruction to do so anywhere, or that passwords were moved. You're right, it a seperate Apple app download. Been struggling to access through General/password/passcode area. Why in the world would it be a separate download in App Store? Apple, not cool!

This is all really confusing to some of us. I could not find it until I Googled, found this site and then read it and it was all there but why didn't Apple warn anyone? This was a big change and it freaked me out as I thought I lost all my passwords.

Apple DID warn everyone. First, they held their annual conference in June, where iOS 18 was discussed in detail, including the new Passwords App. The conference was recorded and posted on just about every website on the planet, plus at Apple.com and this forum for months. Then when iOS 18 was released, as with most iOS releases, Release Notes were posted below for people to see the new changes before they tapped the update button. If you didn't read them, that's on you, not Apple.

LOL - ok, I forgot everyone goes to the Apple AGM. Consdescending is a trait that belongs almost anywhere but a help forum. Good luck with yours.

Yes, and no one ever reads release notes. I don’t know why Apple even goes to the trouble of creating them. Of course probably millions of people DO read them, which is why they didn’t think to post in this thread.

How else do you think Apple should warn you? Skywriting? Calling each of the 2 billion iPhone users individually?

I wasn't being condescending in any way. If you took it that way, that's on you. You complained you should have been given a warning. What does Apple need to do, hire millions of people to go knock on the doors of users and personally tell you about changes coming in iOS? Or maybe, just maybe, you could have read the release notes and you wouldn't have been taken by surprise.

Perhaps a little note from them as to what changes were being put into the update....like a message or e-mail....nice little thing for those of us not so awesome as you!

Aw, thanks for thinking I'm awesome. It's an honor!

What don't you understand about the list of release notes, which were clearly listed on the update page when you went to update your phone? They were plainly published and pretty easy to read. Don't you think that counts as being quite upfront about what changes came with the update?

What you're really saying is you couldn't be bothered to take a moment and read what was new. That's on you Mikey. No one else.

We would agree with you but then we would all be wrong. The updates come onto phones in the middle of the night and people go about this thing called lives. Try one, you may like it. However, back on topic, there was zero information for the average person. Awesome people like yourself were clearly fine.

OK, tell me how Apple should have notified everyone if not by release notes, press releases to thousands of publications, and a product announcement and their pre-release presentation that was report in every major technical and general news source in the world? What else should they have done? Be specific.

Easy. First off, leave it where it was. If it’s not a substantial improvement in usability, don’t change it. Or, have the tab in the settings like it always was, but make it be a notification with a link to the new passwords app. Could even be a one time pop-up that goes away after you acknowledge it the first time you access your passwords in the new iOS.

the new ios 18 update is a total disaster. pleas, apple. don't help us. i hate the password app which does not work. at first it had nothing at all in it. my passwords were gone. i tinkered with cloud a bit and somehow the passwords appeared....except they are old and outdated. wth? and the app does not update when i change a password. if it ain't broke, don't fix it apple.

The password app works perfectly for me, and I find it to be much more user-friendly than having to open Settings every time I needed to check a password.

But-Have you noticed that the settings for ALL apps, both Apple and 3rd party, are now in Settings/Apps? I’m sure that was done so Apple apps do not have any advantage over 3rd party apps, something that Google does NOT do, and they are being sued over it. When Passwords was in Settings that meant you could not use any 3rd party password manager. As an app on the Home screen it is now equal in privilege, rather than superior, to 3rd party password managers. And, you can easily choose a different password manager if you don’t want to use Apple’s by going to Settings/Apps/Default Apps.

100% agree. i prefer the passwords back in the settings. nobody asked us users anything, though. just 'surprise' we decided to 'fix' things. no thanks, apple.

Apple owns iOS, not you. And they are under no obligation to ask you anything, when it comes to their operating system. Just like Microsoft or any other developer of software you have a license to use.

But Apple did give everyone months of notice on this change, which btw., is infinitely easier to use. As opposed to opening settings, then scanning down to passwords, then looking for a password, now all you have to do is tap the passwords, app, which you can put on your first home page and look for a password.
