Hi guys,
Recently by mistake I toggled off the Excel app in the Files & Folders section of Privacy & Security on the iPhone.
Sadly when it toggled off it disappeared (so no option to toggle it back on) so consequently I am now unable to open any excel files in iCloud via the Excel app (the files are currently greyed out with no access to them).
All help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hello, you may have to delete the Excel app, restart your iPhone (and perhaps force restart it) and redownload Excel. This should reset all permission on this app and you should be prompted anew to authorize its various settings.

I stumbled on another discussion that mentions that Apple knows of issues with Excel in iOS 18. They are working on a fix. That same discussion mentioned moving the Excel files to Microsoft OneDrive for the time being.
Hi, I downloaded Excel on my iPhone and created 2 spreadsheets that I saved to the "iCloud" and "On My iPhone" locations, respectively.
I got no authorization request and the files saved just fine. I checked Settings > Privacy & Security > Files & Folders and Excel wasn't in the list. The files reopened just fine after quitting Excel.
All this to say that I'm confused as to what's happening on your end. BTW, I'm using iOS 18.0.
Try to move the Excel files to another location, in the "On My iPhone" for instance. Try also to open them by sharing them with Numbers (if you have it installed.) I'm wondering if those files didn't get corrupted somehow.
Do you have Excel on another device with which you could try to open the files? The fact that the file moved to "On My iPhone" is empty is a worrying sign. Do you have any backup of those files?
When "sharing", did you tap "More..." to see if Numbers was there?

just followed your instructions but sadly I didn’t receive a prompt to renew the authorisation - the .xlsx files are still greyed out and as such the Files & Folders has no Excel folder to toggle on/off
Any other work around would be much appreciated (and thank you again for your earlier reply) 😊

Yes, I’m using ios18.
i’ve to replicate what you’ve done but still no joy with viewing any excel file. Very odd - and the problem started when I toggled off Excel in Files & Folders (I was able to view/edit the excel files before that).
tried sharing with Numbers (which I installed) but Numbers not showing up when I hit the “share” button.
I also tried to move the file to On My Phone - could see the file, opened it, but then it showed a blank page.
I’m not sure what else to do but the toggling off and then that app disappearing under Files & Folders (in Privacy & Security) is weird
any other help would be appreciated- maybe it’s an ios18 issue though you seem to be able to work it
Hey - thanks for the heads up.
ill keep an eye out for iOS 18.1 and hopefully that will fix the problem. Failing that I’ll head into an Apple Store for some additional help.
I’ll pop a couple of files to One Drive in the meantime.
