Unprompted appleid@id.apple.com texts and emails

My girlfriend recently received multiple texts and emails from this address asking her to reset her Apple ID password. She said she didn't do anything with her account to create this prompt. Is this a legit query? There seem to be conflicting reports here and on Reddit about the veracity of this email purportedly from Apple.

Check for compromised passwords, too. Apple flags those:

Enable two-factor authentication if not already, and don’t re-use passwords.

Yes, there are lots of scams around too, seeking to get folks to log into fake “Apple” login portals, and hand over our credentials. (That’s why having two-factor authentication enabled is so important. Should any of us fall for a fake login, two-factor will trigger and block others from accessing our Apple Account without the verification code.)

First any sending address can be spoofed to appear to be somebody else, so the sender address cannot be used to verify legitimacy.

Sign into the Apple Account at https://account.apple.com, to see if there are any messages that pertain to the Apple ID. If you need to reset the password, you will be instructed to do so.
