Apple TV Up Next ignores Paramount app paid subscription. & Up Next is not updating automatically.

When a Paramount+ show icon in Up Next is selected, Apple TV doesn't recognize that the Paramount+ app is installed with paid subscription. It only displays the option to get a free trial. Instead, I have to exit Apple Home and enter the Paramount+ app directly in order to watch the show.

Another bad behavior is when I finish watching a show's episode from any source in my Up Next list, it does not update to the next episode automatically like it was doing before. I have to open the show's icon's submenu to Mark as Watched in order to advance the pointer to the next episode.

These issues started after the latest update to tvOS 18.0 [22J357].

Apple TV HD, tvOS 18

Apple TV doesn't recognize that the Paramount+ app is installed with paid subscription.
  • Verify that the Paramount+ app is set to be a “connected app” in Settings. Settings﹥Apps﹥TV app﹥ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴠ﹥Paramount+ app﹥On
  • Verify that the Apple TV app records the play history: Settings﹥Apps﹥TV app﹥Use Play History﹥On

If those are set, and it still doesn’t work, then remove the show from Up Next, then play the show from the content provider app, to let the TV app add it to Up Next again, this time with the correct link.

If it still doesn’t work, then consider clearing the play history for a fresh start: Settings﹥Apps﹥TV app﹥Clear Play History

Up Next does not update to the next episode automatically like it was doing before.

The above should solve this too.

Thanks for your response.

  1. A "Connect to TV" setting is not displayed in the TV app menu. Paramount+ is not listed in the Apps menu where other installed apps are listed below the Podcasts item.
  2. "Use Play History" has always been ON.
  3. Removed a Paramount+ show from Up Next. Played the episode from the Paramount+ app for about 5 minutes. Paused it and returned to Up Next. The episode did not appear. Partially viewed shows from other apps appear in Up Next.
  4. If I Clear Play History, I will lose track of 39 shows from multiple apps in Up Next. Restoring that list will be very annoying. And because there are 2 other Apple TV devices in my household that use my Apple account, they will lose their Play Histories as well. This "last resort" is not acceptable.
  5. I have observed that Up Next on the Main screen contains only 20 of the 39 shows in the TV app's Up Next. Why are they not the same?

Paramount+ should be connectable app, if installed on that Apple TV box, presuming US region. Paramount+ is not available in my region, but the “ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴠ” shows below the first ~9 other options, so you may have to scroll down a bit.

Paramount+ is not listed in the Apps menu where other installed apps are listed below the Podcasts item.

Not all apps have been programmed to have their settings in that Settings﹥Apps﹥ section, as Apple would like to see. Some apps have no settings to configure.

If you compare here the ‘Top Shelf’ listings at the top of the Home Screen ‘desktop’, and the in-app listing, then there might be a difference in limits of items to display, not sure. My count has never been that high. The newest additions and progress always go to the front of the line, so most viewers don’t have to scroll ever.

My Settings > Apps > TV screen does not show "CONNECT TO TV". FUBO is my TV provider. Could their app be interfering with the Apple menus?

Yes, I have a lot of shows in Up Next. I rotate through them by scrolling to the right end to watch the oldest last viewed. Then of course, I manually flag that episode watched and the show rotates to the left end of Up Next.
