XQD Reader not being seen on M3 MB Pro OS Sonoma 14.7

Strangely it will appear using a a USB-C to USB adapter but not with a cable that has the correct plugs at either end. Same deal connecting my Nikon D850 to the computer. Anyone any clues as it's highly frustrating. Everything worked perfectly on my 2014 running Mojave.

I tried other devices in the same port and they work fine. I watched my device report when attempting to connect the reader and the report doesn't register the connection of the reader. I'm aware of a Sony software patch to correct this. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with the Sony patch or if there is some other non Sony software patch that work?

SD card reader not working on 2021 MacBook Pro (M1) I just bought a used 2021 16" MacBook Pro (M1) on eBay. The SD card reader doesn't work. I've tried two SD cards and I restarted the MacBook with the SD card in the reader. Is there anything else I can do? (Besides spending $10 on USB C SD card reader, I hate to lose one of the USB C ports.)
