4 disks called "Creedence Cryptex" appeared on my desktop

just did a fresh install of macOS 15.1- iv never had this before..

I no longer have the cryptex volumes appear.

Is "Creedence Cryptex"

Would this cause a bad case of the Pinwheel of Death?

You might still see them in Disk Utility or Disk Drill and the like

Just updated to 15.1.1 (24 nov) and they popped up there, but not on the desktop

The culprit is MacOS IMO

Not stuff that used to work / not cause issues , without a workaround

They seem to be multiplying on desktop. It was a few initially and now have close to forty showing! Also past two days everything is slowing and I’m getting the pinwheel.

Sudo rm didn’t worked for me.

Mine seems to try to use always 100% of my CPU. For sure that's a kind of Virus for me...

Not just 15.2. Was in 15.1 and is still an annoyance in in 15.3

No. No you haven't provided the steps to fix. I followed your instructions, turned off ALL launch daemons and it was still there after a reboot. So I didn't notice what you said I would notice....

These disks do exist in the path you mentioned and also in the Disk Utility list. But they stopped appearing on the desktop, which is much better for my metal health...

Whoever is reading, I have already provided the steps to fix it above.

The issue is certain legacy apps are causing it. So each person's use case will be different, start by turning off ALL the launchdaemons and reboot. You'll notice there won't be any cryptex disks on the desktop after a reboot.

This is a method of troubleshooting and to find the culprit.

In our customers case the reason was an old version of bitdefender...
