Is iPadOS version 17.6.1 a real update?

My iPad normally tells me when I have an update. This time, when I asked Norton for help with a virus, Norton told me I had an update. Norton would not help me with the virus. So is this an actual APPLE update?

I need to know.

Is iPadOS version 17.6.1 a real update? i was told by Norton I had a problem. When I tried to get Norton to fix they said i needed to get the latest OS update. normally m ipad would tell me there was an update. i did try to down load the update.

iPadOS 17.6.1 has been superseded by iPadOS 17.7. If you have not already updated to iPadOS 17.7, you should do so.


There are no true Antivirus Products available for iOS/iPadOS. Those that claim to provide AV protection are little more than “snake oil” - and should generally be avoided. Insofar as being able to scan your iPad for malware, Norton, McAfee and similar Apps for iPad are worthless.


Due to the sandboxed system architecture of iOS/iPadOS, AV software cannot access anything other than its own sandbox - and cannot access other areas of the iPad filesystem.



If your iPad is capable of update to a more recent version of iOS/iPadOS than is currently installed, these support pages outline both the available methods by which the update can be performed - and troubleshooting should you experience difficulties:

Be aware that while an iPad may be capable of update, in some circumstances you may need to use a computer to perform the update*. Ensure that your installed version of iTunes has been updated to the most recent version; the essential device drivers are included.

If you have a beta profile installed, ensure this has been removed from your iPad - as, otherwise, installation of production software updates may be inhibited. This support page provides the necessary information to remove the beta from your iPad:

You should note that for your iPad to install an available update, its battery must be charged to at least 50% capacity - and/or be connected to its Power Adapter. Similarly, the iPad can only be updated over a standard WiFi connection - or be updated by a PC or Mac using iTunes or Finder - over a USB connection.
