Why do I need to unlock my locked phone to set my alarm clock?

My previous iPhone was a 13. And from a lock screen to the control center menu, I was able to hit the alarm clock and it opened just fine. Now that I have a 16 this is a terrible feature to have to unlock my locked phone to use apps from the control center. The whole point of putting apps in the control center is that it doesn’t require me to unlock my phone and find it in a menu.

iPhone 16, iOS 18

I, too, have noticed this change in iOS 18 and it’s indeed quite annoying. Other apps in Control Center, such as Calculator, still don’t require unlocking the phone. One workaround, although clunky, is to tap on the Timer app from Control Center then toggle over to Alarm.

This did not work for me. I tried this, the timer app as a widget, the clock app.. all of them require Face ID or Passcode before they will open if they are set as a widget. Yet, I have my “Allow Access When Locked” section toggled on for control center AND widgets. But none of them seem to work without a Face ID or Passcode.

Have you checked settings- face id - control center - OFF?
