App Becomes Inactive After Switching in Mission Control with Stage Manager Enabled

Issue:

When using Stage Manager on macOS, I’ve noticed that after selecting an application via Mission Control, the chosen app appears faded or inactive. I have to click on the app again to make it the active window. This extra step interrupts the workflow and makes app switching less efficient.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Enable Stage Manager via Control Center.

2. Open several applications (e.g., Safari, Notes, Mail).

3. Activate Mission Control using the F3 key or trackpad gesture.

4. Click on any of the displayed applications to switch to it.

5. Notice that the selected application appears inactive or faded out.

6. Click on the application again to bring it into focus.

Expected Behavior:

When selecting an application in Mission Control, the app should immediately become active without requiring an additional click.

Actual Behavior:

The selected application appears faded out or inactive and requires an extra click to become active.

Additional Info:

• The issue disappears when Stage Manager is disabled, and app switching works normally.

• I’ve attempted various troubleshooting steps, such as resetting Stage Manager settings and verifying display preferences, but the issue persists.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with Stage Manager and Mission Control? Are there any known fixes or workarounds for ensuring that selected apps become immediately active after being selected in Mission Control?

I found that enabling the “Show Recent Apps” option in Stage Manager works as a workaround. With this option turned on, apps become active immediately after being selected in Mission Control, without the need for an additional click. However, this doesn’t fully solve the issue when “Show Recent Apps” is disabled, as the problem of inactive windows still persists. This suggests that the issue may be related to how Stage Manager handles window focus when “Show Recent Apps” is turned off.
