How to prompt Photos in MacOS Sequoia to update the 'Trips' section in 'collections' based on existing databases.

Recently updated to MacOS Sequoia and found there's a nice Trips section under 'Collections' in the updated Photos app. But there's no trip showing up so far. Is there a way I can prompt the app to update this section based on the assets in the library? I have over a large photo library of 200,000 photos and videos (they are stored in an external high-speed hard drive).

It takes time. A few days ago I created a new Photos library from scratch and imported 36 000 images and 2600 movies to it (from my main archive stored on two identical HDDs as plain Finder folders).

I disabled sleep by setting Energy Saver "Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off" to ON and Lock Screen "Start screen saver when active" to Never" and "Turn display off when inactive" to 1-5 minutes depending what I was doing on the Mac so the indexing started as soon as I stopped using the Mac (you might use slightly different settings but make sure the Mac never sleeps). I have quit Photos and have not yet checked if letting it be ON in the background makes any difference, I guess not). I then let the Mac mini 2018 run day and night. I also made sure NOT to disable screensaver via a Hot Corner because it seems to disable photoslibraryd and medialibraryd background processes that start to index the library after a few minutes idleness (indexing can be checked in the Activity Monitor if the screen is let to stay on. Just moving the mouse stops those processes).

During the first feature days Photos started to fill its Media Types (Selfies, Panoramas, Time-Lapse, Screenshots etc) and Utilities album (Duplicates, Receipts, Handwriting, Illustrations, Documents etc).

Today morning its has started to fill the Collections album and the first 60 People & Pets items have appeared. Memories and Trips are still empty.

Thanks for the nod, Richard. ...and sorry for the autocorrect typos in the original reply because I had to hurry to pick up my 93 year old dad from the hospital before proof-reading :-]

BTW writing something like "Prevent automatic sleeping" always reminds me of Jethro Tull 70's song "And the Mouse Police Never Sleeps" ...but it was until this day I discovered it is about the cat instead the mouse...

Good to read :-)

I experience similar situation. I was delighted after updating to 15.1 to be able to search in photos for "Svamp" (=mushroom) and be shown a lot of photos of these items, without any description present, and ALSO photos where the text "svamp" was found.

But after having imported some 12.000 photos (From Lightroom) I can see the photos but when I search I will only get the old results, and at the bottom of that dropdown is the word Indexing shown on and off.

I have set my separate M1 system as you have described, and hope for a good outcome "later"... but I have one question:

Is this indexing just for the specific M1 or will it be "with/via Apple" somehow... that is can I get good results on iPad and iPhone and my second Mac Studio???

The trips appeared in my iCloud Photos Library on my Mac and the iPhone together with the other collections, People & Pets etc.

But the names of the trips are not very helpful. Most of them are just called "Weltreise" or "World Trip", depending on the language I have set when the library is scanned. And some are just named by date. It would help, when at least one visited country would be mentioned. Photos seems to consider a voyage a world trip, when we visit more than one country. Many of the supposed world trips have just been road trips in Europe. Ans as always, we cannot change the keyframe to a typical image for the trip.

Yes, mediaanalysisd, photoanalysisd and photolibraryd are the daemons that go through and analyze the library when the computer is otherwise idling.

BTW I'd advise getting rid of CleanMyMac:

3rd party virus apps (Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, Intego, MacAfee, Norton, Kaspersky, ESET NOD32, Trusteer, PC Matic etc) and 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" apps (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper etc) produce obscure errors and system corruption and are not needed.

I second that. I have tested the trial version s of the earlier CleamMyMac versions twice, and every time it damaged my Photos Library, when I let it clean a simple test library. It removed original image files of edited versions as unnecessary working copies, and it linked quite a few edited versions to the wrong originals. The damaged library could not be repaired and needed to be restored from a backup. I have not yet tested the current version and will not do so - perhaps these problems have been fixed, but the description of what the cleaning is doing is very vague.
