Apple Mail cannot access Hotmail.com email address

Let me start by saying, Yes I do know that notifications were sent out about changes in Hotmail.com for months. Yes I checked what needed to be done and was assured that Mail used the correct security measures and I should have no problems. Well since October 1, 2024 I can only access my email via an internet browser. neither my iMac nor my iPhone can use Apple Mail to access email. Does ANYONE know how to fix this? Between my husband and myself we have several personal and work emails that we cannot access easily and it is becoming a pain. I have even tried deleting a rarely used email from Mail and adding it back and still cannot access the mailbox so I have not tried it with my most often used email addresses. I honestly have no clue what to do, any help is appreciated.

Thank You SO Much! It worked.... I didn't know to use the "Exchange" option when setting up the email so I was just trying to add a new @ account. The information I was given by clicking the link in the notification email for Microsoft did not tell me that part, of course. Hopefully this post will help others with the same problem.
