Smart Invert keeps reactivating

This is happening on my M4 iPad Pro. It was never a problem on iPhone 14 Pro, my M1 MacBook Air, or my older 2016 iPad Pro. After digging through Accessibility settings I switched off the Smart Invert, which fixed the problem. That was a month ago. Today I was on a Zoom call and the other person’s image was in negative. I looked in Settings and Smart Invert was back on! I switched it back off and this fixed the problem. I’m running iPadOS version 17.7.

Why is this being activated against my will? How can I prevent this from recurring in the future?

I'm unable to replicate your issue - and neither have I seen any other reports of the problem within this Support Community.

Updating your iPad is perhaps simpler than the alternative... in fully resetting your iPad settings. If you prefer to follow this alternative path, while this reset will not cause any loss of data, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings - which will fully reset/erase the iPad - and install a fresh copy of iPadOS:
