After it shuts down at 20%, when i turn it back on it usually shows close to 0% battery left.
I dont thing there is a problem with the battery because I get amazing battery life but i feel like the system is not able to read the charge memaining on the battery properly.
This isn't a big issue for me because i usually charge it up before the battery hots 20% but it bothers me sometimes

That pattern concerns me. To me that unpredictable behavoir heralds a failing battery. I have an iPad that started showing a similar pattern, shutting down between 20% and 40% charge, and then runtime on a full charge suddenly plummeted to just over 10 minutes.
Do "About this Mac..." from your Apple menu:
and click the "System Report..." button near the bottom of the resulting window.
When System Information opens, use the left-hand navigation pane to select the "Power" category.

I agree with @Allan Jones' assessment of a failing battery. That is how a failing battery behaves.
You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected. Unfortunately the diagnostics do not alert to all failures even when a hardware failure is proven to exist using other methods. In fact I have had to develop my own custom testing methods to detect failing Apple batteries since the Apple Diagnostics and the suggestion of @Allan Jones fails to detect a good number of failing batteries. Plus recently I think macOS & the Apple Diagnostics are no longer identifying issues as early as they used to do although a couple of posts on this forum suggest that a recent macOS update may have changed this (a couple of users mentioned that their batteries suddenly showed a "Service Recommended" battery condition immediately after installing the latest OS update patch).

To be honest I wouldn't see it as an issue...granted it is not a perfect science.

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.
