iPhone XS takes better closeup photos using google lens than natively

When I try to take close up pictures with my iPhone XS, at close range the image becomes blurry. But when I search with camera in google iOS app using google lens, with the same phone I can take better clearer close up pictures? It seems like google lens is overriding something in my phone to help it take better close up pictures. How can this be?

How close is your close-up? The closest focus for your iPhone XS Max is about a foot, 30 cm. Apple's Macro wide angle lens was introduced in 2021, a few years later than your phone.

Software can be used to make a blurry picture appear more in-focus, and there's some of that in the Photos app. Perhaps your Google app uses some nice routines.

Your best bet is probably to back up until the picture is in focus, and then zoom in with the focused picture.
