Fax modem and 64 bit boot

Apparently the Apple external fax modem won’t work under a 64 bit boot. As the Mac Pro’s are now booting by default in 64 bit - has anyone found a way to use ANY OTHER fax modem?

Is there some software fix?

I realize that the Pro’s can be booted into 32 bit but that is not practical.

I've just run into this with my new Mac Pro. It just says "The Apple USB Modem is not supported on this computer." I wasn't sure if it was the computer or Snow Leopard, or both, that was the problem. Anyone have any ideas how this can be worked around, or have any suggestions for implementing faxes now on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard?

Apparently the Zoom company has a modem about the size of the Apple modem which they say they have tested using a 64 bit boot. This was on a Mac Book Pro, however, not a Mac Pro. (Not sure that matters?) The modem is a model 3095. I have not yet tested this. Amazon has them.
