iPhone 16 Pro: WiFi Drops Sporadically

I previously had an iPhone 14 Pro and recently upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro. When I first got the phone, I noticed that connecting to the 5Ghz band on my router resulted in basically no internet. Switching to the other band of the router makes the internet work, but:

  • It is slower
  • (most significantly) the internet goes through periods of "no internet connection"

Some other details about my device/internet setup:

  1. I've tried the general recommendations (restart modem, restart iPhone, etc.)
  2. I do not have this internet issue on any of my other devices (multiple macs, a windows PC, homepods, smart tv).
  3. I previously had a work VPN that would turn on when using my work applications. I have since removed the VPN configuration and uninstalled all work applications on my phone. This did not improve anything.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? Is there something I can do on my end to fix it? Is it a software problem with the new iPhone 16 Pro? Is it a hardware problem? Do I need to switch out my phone for a new one? Any help would be appreciated!

Guys I found a solution. Go to the modem interface for a solution and disable the “STBC Tx” setting from the advanced settings. Set the bandwidth to a minimum of 40MHz and adjust the control channel to one of the less congested channels. Some modem brands are reportedly incompatible with Apple products. I experienced this issue only at home and not with other WiFi networks so indicates that the problem is caused by the modem.

Here’s what the Genius Bar just told me. The problem is not the hardware. The problem is that I copied my iPhone 12 to my new iPhone 16 (I’m not sure about the technical term, but I set my iPhone 12 next to my 16 and let it bring everything to the new phone). Because of this, some software and settings from the 12 are messing with the 16 and there’s nothing they can do about it except a complete factory reset of the phone. The problem with that is, I lose absolutely everything because I cannot restore my back up . Oh and a big point of this is that I back up to iTunes I do not use iCloud. If I used iCloud, everything would be fantastic so they tell me. Does this track with anyone else’s experience?

The next step is for me to have Verizon reprovision my account. This has something to do with the SIM card. After that, a reset of not just the network, but all the settings is suggested. If none of that works, I would have to factory reset and start over.
