Apple is not law enforcement and cannot prevent criminals from posing as them. If criminals used your name without your permission to take out a loan, are you liable to pay it back? No. Neither is Apple. The card companies are who need to step up prevention of this type of crime.

Only your card issurer of bank can handle this. If they are not aware of this decade-old scan, well... you know what to do.

When this happened to us, AMEX was very aware and explained exactly how this happens. Within 24 hours of our contacting them about a bogus charge, they had identified it as fraudulent, erased the charge and issued my wife a new card number.

Apple is not the only retailer being spoofed.

Then it's very likely someone has your credit card information and is using it to make purchases in their Apple account on your card.

Contact your credit card issuer. Have them reverse the fraudulent charge. They also must immediately cancel your current card and issue you a new one.
