The iPhone 16 Pro Max supports

  • USB-C charging
  • Wireless charging using Qi (up to 7.5W) or Qi2 (15W)
  • Wireless charging using MagSafe (up to 25W with 30W adapter or higher)

MagSafe helps you to align the charging pad properly with your iPhone, and I believe that is part of the reason why it supports higher charging wattages than Qi and Qi2.

To "fast-charge" ("up to 50% charge in around 30 minutes"), you need

  • A 20W adapter or higher, paired with a USB-C charging cable, or
  • A 30W adapter or higher, paired with a MagSafe charging pad
