Loading issue after installing MacOS Sequoia

I finally got around to installing Sequoia on my Macbook Pro last night and went to sleep while I waited for it to install. This morning when I opened up my laptop it was stuck on the apple startup screen with the loading bar frozen. I restarted it and it loaded up to the login screen, where upon logging in it began to load and then froze up on about 70%-75%

I tried to restart it a couple more times after this with the same results, and so I attempted to reinstall Sequoia. The installation went fine but i am still stuck on the login screen with the same percentage filled. What should i do?

I am going to make an educated guess that you have some 3rd party software installed that interfered with the macOS installation upgrade. It is likely trying to load that 3rd party software which is now broken and that is when it hangs during boot.

Boot up into Safe Mode

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Open Terminal -> softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.0.1 and then run /Applications/Install macOS Sequoia over the top of your existing installation.

No background software is running when in Safe Mode. This ensures it cannot interfere with the macOS installer.

Once you get macOS booting reliably, then see if you can find what 3rd party software you have installed and then remove any add-on security software such as antivirus. Remove any and all cleaners, etc. VPN software can definitely have problems. 3rd party hardware such as docking stations, KVM switches, and USB hubs may all require firmware / driver updates when a new macOS ships.

If your Mac is managed by an IT department, you may have several 3rd party IT security tools running and they are notorious when it comes to Apple upgrades. i.e. they always need to be updated to be compatible with the latest Apple changes to macOS.

I ended up having to take it to someone to take a look at it. They were unable to figure out what the problem was during the diagnostics and had to backup all my data, do a complete system wipe and reinstall the os

Is this an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac? Do you have a backup? Time Machine, CCC, etc.?

@ltf8801 - I seem to be in the same place - updated to Sequoia, all attempts to log in just hang (normal, Safe Boot, after resetting PRAM, re-reinstalling via Recovery mode, …)

Were you ever able to resolve this?
