Why does the on-screen keyboard appear when I have connected a physical keyboard to my iPad?

Using a new iPad Air

iPad OS 18.0.1

Logitech Combo Touch (has physical keyboard)

Whenever I enter a text block such as this one, the on screen keyboard pops up, blocking the bottom half of the screen. Even when I want to type on my physical keyboard.

There is no way around this, if I disable the keyboard by pressing the keyboard key in the bottom right, the “cursor” is removed from the text box.

I’ve done a fairly extensive Google search and come up with no solutions.

Any suggestions?

Google's AI suggested this:

To remove the onscreen keyboard, you can:

  1. Tap in a text field to open the keyboard
  2. Touch and hold
  3. Slide your finger to Undock and release
  4. To return the keyboard to its original position, touch and hold, slide your finger to Dock, and release

If this does not help, you may want to contact Logitech to see if they can help.

I wish I could help more. All I know is what I copied from AI. I have an Apple Magic Keyboard and am not familiar with the Logitech one. Hopefully someone here who has your combination of devices will step in. Otherwise, as I suggested, try contacting Logitech.
