XAMPP-osx-8.2.4-0-installer quit unexpectedly

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the XAMPP installer on my MacBook Air with an M2 chip, running macOS Sonoma. I downloaded XAMPP version 8.2.4, but when I try to install it, I get the following error:

"XAMPP-osx-8.2.4-0-installer quit unexpectedly"

I used to use xampp, didn't use it for a while. And today when i open it I'm getting this error message. I tried reinstalling but nothing worked.

What am I supposed to do 😭

I got a university coursework to be completed in a few days.

Please someone help me.🙏

MacBook Air, macOS 15.0

As mentioned earlier, I’d first try re-downloading and installing 8.2.4, as your title indicates 8.2.4 but your dump is referencing 8.1.17.

The crash could also conceivably indicate an existing 8.1.17 install getting tangled with 8.2.4 install. You might need to remove that version first, if the older install is somehow corrupted.

Then if XAMPP is malfunctioning and the XAMPP forums or the (XAMPP-recommended) StackOverflow site can’t help you resolve the XAMPP error, try MAMP.

The integrated web server within macOS works too, but usually requires adding some other chunks for whatever other dependencies exist for your particular web app or service goals. Which is where XAMPP and MAMP can be helpful.

That’s why I tried to install xampp

I’d likely use MariaDB then, as that’s fully compatible with MySQL without getting tangled with Oracle licensing “fun”.

You’ll probably also then want Sequel Ace or ilk as a GUI:

But I’m guessing this is probably web-facing, which usually means the XAMPP or MAMP packages, unless you want to learn the stack and the underlying tools and integration, and learn about Unix and the Unix command line. (All of which I’d very strongly recommend learning about, but you're in school so first do whatever the instructors ask. Yes, even if the ask is utterly nonsensical.)

TL;DR: In a rush? Load MAMP.

That's a 3rd party tool and a fairly unusual one. You are unlikely to find anyone in this forum who is familiar with it. You could try XAMPP support or some other forum dedicated to that product. However, in that case you are unlikely to find anyone using the product with a Mac.

I got a university coursework to be completed in a few days.

What does this coursework require? Do you have to use XAMPP?

You can setup a local web server on Sequoia by following these instructions: Setting up a local web server on macOS 15… - Apple Community

You can certainly install MySQL if you want. However, you'll need some way to make MySQL do something useful. You can try MAMP.

Perhaps a better idea would be to setup a Linux virtual machine. I've had good luck with Virtual Buddy. The automatic Linux installer is buggy. I recommend downloading the ARM version of Ubuntu Desktop ISO manually and then set it up from the ISO.

Once you start talking about things like MySQL and PHP, you are going to have lots of difficulty on a Mac. You can do it, but it's a very advanced process. I wouldn't recommend it if you are still learning.
