Image Capture Error -9934 - Resolved

Trying to back up my photos. Ones taken last winter transferred without issue, however anything from 2024 won’t transfer and I receive error “com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9934”.

I have seen discussion around it being an issue with the high efficiency format and have concluded this to be true. I turned off high efficiency in my camera settings and was able to transfer a photo I took this morning, but not yesterday when I had high efficiency turned on.

I was able to find a way to transfer all my old pictures which were taken while High Efficiency was on.

  1. Close out of the photo app on the computer
  2. On iPhone open Settings>Photos>Keep Originals
  3. Open photo app and transfer photos

9937 usually indicates a permission error, or at least it used to.

Whereas 9934 typically indicates incompatible formats.

What macOS version are you running?

Could it be that it’s due for an update? If so, that could present itself as a permission error.

Alternatively make sure you’ve got “Automatic” enabled in the camera settings under Transfer to Mac or PC.

This should ensure that your iPhone and Mac negotiate a format your Mac is compatible with.
