I am thinking of going from Samsung S22 ultra to iPhone 16 pro max but need some answers first

Because of doing more video, last year I switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro. I have been very satisfied with the change. I then bought an iPad mini, mainly to use as a kindle replacement. I really like how Apple is making it easier to customize, especially with ios18. I have always loved photography, but more and more I am using my phone for photos instead of my heavy and expensive camera gear. I always felt Samsung had a little better camera system, so I was thinking of waiting for the S25 ultra. I am getting more into video, which is tilting me toward the iPhone. I think my iPad mini will help me get used to changing from android to apple for my phone.

There are a few things I really don't like about the iPad mini, and I am hoping there are fixes for what is troubling me. On my Mac I use Texty to view and write text messages, very handy being able to use my keyboard. For some reason the apple message app will not show any android text (I received one message on it and no texts even from iPhone users, maybe it is just for messages and not texts), and I did not see any Texty app for the iPad or phone. I would like to be able to read all my text message on my iPad, what is the best way to do this. I assume it would be the same for the iPhone. Another problem I am having with ios18 is when the keyboard pops up it is right in the middle of the page, which means it blocks where I need to input. Can I change it to show on the bottom? I am also having problems with WhatsApp. I do not see the app in the App Store, I just saw the WhatsApp web app. When I tried to set it up it wanted me to download a scanning app that had a $10/week subscription! Ridiculous! Now maybe the problem is with the 6th generation iPad mini. Maybe assuming ios18 would work the same on the mini and phone is incorrect.

What I really liked about Samsung was their non glare screen. I have bad eyes so this is a big deal when trying to take photos outdoors. Can I get a screen protector that would reduce the glare without taking anything away from the screen? I am horrible when putting those on, so would the Apple Store do that for me?

How may apps can fit in the dock for the iPhone? I do like being able to have my communication apps in the dock below on my mini. I have people telling me it is best to have one eco system, but I have lived with two. I need to explore more the advantages of just going apple. I can't think of any practical use of screen mirroring, but I think transferring photos from phone to Mac will be easier. I bought an insta360 action camera for video but I am a little disappointed in it. I am hoping for travel videos the iPhone will be able to produce high quality videos. I am really trying to talk myself into getting the new iPhone.

I will try to handle of few of your concerns:

  • iPad does not receive Text Messages - The iPad is not capable of receiving/sending SMS messages on its own. You can use iPhone Message forwarding to allow the iPad to use your phone network for SMS messages. A Cellular iPad is only for cellular data for internet connections and SMS does not work over cellular data. The iPad does not have a phone number to send or receive phone calls.
  • WhatsApp for iPad - WhatsApp does not provide an app for the iPad. WhatsApp requires a phone number to register an account and the iPad does not have a phone number to make or receive call/text messages. You can use WhatsApp on the iPad using the web, but you need to link it with an iPhone. There is no additional charge to use WhatsApp on the web and it sounds like you were looking at some companion app not provided by WhatsApp that charged a subscription for some unknown service. They do have an app for the iPhone.
  • iPad Keyboard in middle of screen - On the iPad, you can have the floating keyboard that appears anywhere on the screen if you want or in the normal location on the bottom of the screen. It seems you have activated the floating keyboard and this support article should help with your options. The iPhone always has it on the bottom of the screen.

  • Screen Glare - Of course Screen protectors are available and you would have to compare at the Apple Store to see if one is really needed. I have not needed anyone at the Apple Store install a screen protector, but you could always ask.
  • How many apps in the Dock - You can have 4 apps in the dock that will be available on every Home Screen and you can organize any screen however you like.
  • Transferring Files - Use AirDrop to transfer files/photos between Apple devices wirelessly. Its a breeze.

To conclude, the iPhone camera has had rave reviews and has been used to shoot music videos, commercials and even some short movies. I respect Samsung's camera as well, but I don't think you will be disappointed. There is a little learning curve that everyone is having to get used to with the new camera controls in the iPhone 16, but like anything else, after a short amount of time you will be using it like a pro.

Give it a shot, you have 14 days to try it out and if it does not meet your needs, then you can return it for a full refund.

Not familiar with the Texty app, but you are correct WhatsApp does provide an app for the Mac and iPhone. They specifically have not allowed the app to be downloaded to the iPad even though it would take very little work on their part and in most cases iPhone apps will work on the iPad with no additional work, but they still must allow it to be downloaded to the iPad. Users have asked for it on their iPad for a very long time now, but for some reason they have not budged and simply tell users to use the web version on the iPad and link it to a phone.
