How can I recover accidentally deleted file on my iMac?
While typing i accidentally hit the delete button and my entire file was deleted. It is not in trash, so where would i go to recover the file?

If you are wisely using Time Machine to backup your Mac, then you can recover the file from the backup drive.

If you were in the process of composing your document and had deleted your text before ever saving that file to the drive, then there likely is no recovering your work.
Best practice when creating documents and files is "save and save often" and have a backup.
