Apple Pencil Not Working Properly in iPad M4 Notes App After iPadOS 18 Update

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else is experiencing issues with their Apple Pencil after updating to iPadOS 18. I have an iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) with the M4 chip. I initially updated when iPadOS 18 was first available, and I've recently updated again to iPadOS 18.0.1, but I'm still encountering a frustrating problem:


The Issue:


  • I can no longer use my Apple Pencil to draw or take handwritten notes in the Notes app.
  • The pencil toolbar doesn't appear at all.
  • I can only type or use the Apple Pencil for Scribble functionality.



I've Tried:

  • Searched through all settings
  • Performed multiple restarts
  • Looked for solutions online
  • Updated to the latest iPadOS 18.0.1



Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far, and it's incredibly disappointing, as taking handwritten notes was the primary reason I invested in an iPad.


Questions for the Community:

  1. Is anyone else facing similar issues after the iPadOS 18 update, particularly on the newer iPad Pro models?
  2. Has anyone found a solution or workaround?
  3. Are there any additional troubleshooting steps I should try?
  4. Has anyone had success after updating to iPadOS 18.0.1?


I would greatly appreciate any advice or shared experiences. This functionality is crucial for my workflow, and I'm hoping we can find a resolution.

my reply won't really be helpful but I want to support you in your complaint / expressed disappointment. After updating to 18.0.1 my Apple Pencil can still pair via BT, it still gets recognized as such, it charges (even showing the percentage) but the tip does not work at all. For nothing.


Given the fact that iPads are machines we all need for our work and not only for toying around and also how much money we, the users, invested in these it is simply unbelievable how Apple does not even comment here, trying to iron out this important issue a.s.a.p.
