light weight shelves for the back of an iMac?

I just had a thought today that would eliminate at least one of my "disk disconnect" error messages but unable to even find a reference to this. What I was thinking was a wire rack with hooks that would mount on the back of an iMac just large enough for the "backup drive" and close enough for that idiotic 3" cord to comfortably connect without too much strain.

Right now, every time I bump any of the connected devices I get TWE disconnect notices because of the cord shortage they one is on top of the other.

Has anyone heard of something of this nature?

Yes, there are numerous shelves available to fit the back side (stand) of your iMac. One of the first, and still imho one of the best is the TwelveSouth BackPack. There are different models depending if you have an older iMac vs. a newer (24") iMac because the stands have different shapes.

They do not cover up any air vents, they mount on the stand in the back of your iMac.

You don't want to do that because you could cover up the air vents on the back of the Mac and cause overheating, high fan speeds, etc. What you need is a USB extension cord like these 18" cords from Amazon.com for less than $6.

Just get the correct USB cord for your external drive and iMac. I have several which lets me place EHDs wherever is convenient in my close quarters.
