Can I upgrade a 2014niMac to run the latest OS?

Should I upgrade my 2014 iMac computer or trade it in? Cash strapped!

No. The 2014 iMac cannot run the most recent macOS versions. It can only run up to macOS 11 Big Sur.

There is no upgrading the hardware to get around that.

If you wish to use the newest OS versions you will need to replace the iMac with something newer.

If you are cash strapped, I suggest looking at Apple Refurbished computers here:

Certified Refurbished Products - Apple

These are reduced price but also have full Apple warranties.

Another place to shop would be macsales.com
