Merlin bird app stopped working after updating to Ios18
Well it stopped working because I enabled sound recognition. When this is disabled Merlin starts working again

No, it didn’t stop working because you enabled sound recognition. I have sound recognition in the Merlin Bird app and it works just fine. As to why it doesn’t work for you, only the app developer, the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology can help if local troubleshooting doesn’t fix it.
Some things to check:
- When you enable the feature it needs to download about 2 GB of reference files. You need to leave the app open and connected to the internet until this completes.
- Try restarting your phone

Perhaps a long shot:
- Do you use VPN? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.
