Sequoia update breaks Numbers and Pages on M1 Mac

Updated today on M1 Mac. Numbers and Pages are now rendered useless. I have to force quit right after opening. Restart didn't help. There are no separate updates for Numbers or PagesCan only access some of my docs and spreadsheets by going into iCloud. That means, I can't easily work! Apple people - all those error reports you got today were from me!

Anyone else having problems?

They had me start the computer in Safe Mode, something I never did before. Here are the instructions. Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support. Because it happened in Safe Mode, I had to reload Sequoia. This was scary because I hadn't backed up like I should have done. Most of the important stuff was backed up to iCloud, though. How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

The first time, the computer wouldn't allow the rep to access it remotely. The second two times, remote access allowed the rep to see the apps were behaving. Both times they looked to identify third-party apps that may have been interfering.

During the third call, I ended up deleting Pages and Numbers and reloading them. Even though they were updated apps to begin with, the reloads worked.

I can't remember all the other little steps I did. I wish I had written them down!

I admit I will be leery about upgrading software unless I absolutely have to.

With Sequoia, you should be using Pages v14.2. If your version is less, launch the Mac App Store and search for Pages. It may show an Open button, and you click that. Then, it may indicate that an Update is available. Don't expect that the Update panel on the Mac App Store will automatically show you Pages or Numbers updates, even after you click cmd+R to refresh it.

Surveys are verboten in the support communities, and it is more important to solve your particular issue that might be conceivably based on a different reason than others.

Yes, it's happening to me and it's driving me nuts. It seems that the app does not respond at all when I try to save or move, or just close an open Numbers or Pages file, but if I wait long enough (usually at least a minute), it will eventually respond. But because I've been force-quitting these apps with all of these files open, whenever I create a new document, I end up having a multitude of files open, none of which can be closed without force-quitting again. Now that I know I just have to wait,... well, it does make these apps useless because who has that kind of time?

The suggestion that you got (to make sure that you're using the latest version of the app) is also useless. All my apps are up to date. Also, I restart my Mac each time I have to use one of these apps. This is clearly a Sequoia issue. Ugh. I totally regret updating.

UPDATE: I finally contacted Apple Support. They walked me through some steps. I wish I could say all was resolved with the first call, but it took several attempts to get the situation resolved. When the situation appeared resolved twice, the problem was back the next day.

I already had Pages and Numbers updated, so that wasn't the problem. Apparently, some program I have on the computer may have interfered with the Sequoia download. Doing well now! There is hope!!!
