loading IOS 18 on new IPad and it has taken over two hours so far. is this normal
The software downloaded successfully but the installation seems to be going a very long time

It depends on which iPad you are installing on, and more specifically what version of software it's already running. For example, if you were running iOS 14 on the device, or if it's just a much older device, it will probably take a bit longer to update to iOS 18. Without more details, I wouldn't worry until around the 5 or 6 hour mark, at which point you might want to bring it in to an Apple store for diagnostics.
