85GB of unlocatable data?!

I have an M2 MacBook Air running Sequoia 15.0.1.

I noticed that my drive was nearly full...

I kept deleting files to free the drive up but to no avail so I went into Finder to try and locate where all that data was being kept...

So data appears to be using up 473.6GB of my 494.38GB drive but the folders on my drive only appear to be holding approximately 390GB of data so where is the 80-85GB of data not showing up in Finder residing on my drive?

Can anyone assist please?

The private folder doesn’t show a calculated size, but that’s where logs, caches, sleepimages and other necessary system files are stored.

What does System Settings > General > Storage > Manage Storage show?

Also, if you use Time Machine with automatic backups, the local snapshots take up ‘invisible’ (purgeable) space and those backups mean deleting a file doesn’t delete it from the snapshots.
