How to turn OFF iPhone voicemail transcription in iOS 18.x?

Same question, yet another iOS later (17, 15 and so on since they added this)...

We could turn this off through iOS 17 by telling our US English (or other lang) Siri to use Japanese (or other diff. lang.) and then ignore BOTH (yay - don't need or want any personal assistant or any WIndows-esque "We know what you want/need better than you do" forced features, which is exactly why I use macOS), but that now does absolutely nothing and there's STILL no toggle to disable this unwanted feature?!

How much feedback does Apple need before they listen?

What happened to OSes for the rest of us, not features forced on all of us?

Anyone know ANY way short of switching away from iOS?

iPhone 12, iOS 18

Are you referring to what is really called Visual Voicemail, where in addition to being able to listen to a voicmail message, it is transcribed so you can read it? If you are, there is no setting for this as it is a carrier provided feature. You can contact your carrier and see if they can turn it off for you. That is your only option.

Keep in mind that Apple has absolutely NOTHING to do with voicemail. Your carrier controls it.

Exactly WHAT setting disables voicemail TRANSCRIPTION? There isn't any such setting in the Phone app on iOS 18.0.1, any more than there was in any prior iOS?

Perhaps be more specific...?

I did try the idea here (by emotronica, ~3 mos. ago, and re: the other annoying voice memo transcriptions in Messages), though, so we'll see when I get the next voicemail now that I am set to English UK...

I'll agree that, yes, a CARRIER has to support Visual Voicemail (at all and in general), but that does not mean the carrier is actually transcribing any of it - the Siri feature is (well, was?), which is how you could break that in order to fix it - by disjointing the iPhone's/iOS' vs. Siri's languages settings. If the carrier were doing it, the Siri setting wouldn't matter at all. No matter WHO or WHAT is doing it, it's an APPLE feature and should have a toggle to stop ANYONE/ANYTHING from doing ANY transcribing. Something changed in iOS 18 (and from iOS 13 -or earlier?- thru 17), but clearly no one (so far) knows what it was/is...

settings - phone is where you look to turn it off, doing a little digging I was able to find it.

Not sure what issue you had not being able to find it yourself.

That link says VOICE MEMO which isn't voicemail.

And what do you see when you go to settings - apps- phone?

Yeah, and setting Siri's language differently was the fix before. It's not always as easy/direct (but should be - hence this and all the other frustrated posts prior to this one) as you seem to think. Some seemingly unrelated things obviously also affect others, which is exactly why that Siri fix worked to disable voicemail transcription, and up until iOS 18. That's also why this latest Accessibility one that I linked may be related (no less related as Siri was to voicemail transcription, prior). Worth a try, unlike some mysterious setting not in the Phone app that should be - I really do hope you're right!

So, what exact setting are you getting at? Please, be more specific, such as Settings-->General--->Phone, and then what, please, if it's so easy?

I am NOT talking about the voicemail itself, AT ALL. Nor, am I talking about LIVE VOICEMAIL either. The transcription is done after I get the message and it is clearly done by iOS b/c it broke (was "fixed") when setting Siri to a different language than the phone/iOS itself for years now. How the heck was THAT carrier-related? Something changed in iOS 18 (and since, maybe, iOS 13). What should have changed is giving us a toggle to DISABLE the transcription entirely, if Apple (not any carrier, obviously) stopped letting us break-fix it via Siri language disjoints (NOT any carrier) in the past and until iOS 17.

Please, @razmee209, where's that easy answer?

Meanwhile, anyone/evereyone stop telling me about VOICEMAIL (yes, THAT, ALONE is carrier-related), when I am talking about the formerly Siri-controlled service that APPLE provides of actually TRANSCRIBING it (into text - NOT done by the carrier!), akin to what APPLE (again, NOT any carrier at all!) does to voicemail memos in Messages.
