Can't install os Big Sur on Mac Book Retina 12 " early 2016

I'm trying to install Big Sur on my mac book, but I keep getting this message "This copy of the Install macOS Big Sur application is damaged, and can‘t be used to install macOS.".

This os should install on my mac book. I've tried trashing the installer and rebooting with shift held down to get into safe mode and then re-downloading the installer (as suggested in these forums) but still getting the same message.

Any help gratefully received

Mark.

You can upgrade a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016) as far as Monterey – and no further. Although Monterey is no longer one of "the most recent three", is there a reason you want to stop at Big Sur instead of Monterey?

I'm not sure what to tell you as to the "application is damaged" message.

macOS installers are signed, with certificates that can expire (for security reasons), so one way to get a "application is damaged" message is to be using an old copy of the installer. But if Apple is maintaining macOS kits on their end properly, downloading a new copy of the installer should have fixed any such problem.
