How to remove multiple "desktops" on mac

Hello, somehow I have created multiple "desktops" on my mac. Which I do not want. Is there a way to set it so I don't accidentally bring them up again? It is extremely frustrating, and should definitely be something you need to enable if you want to use! Please note this is not my screenshot, as I need to have a window pulled up to the top right corner of my screen to see the view in the image, but do not know how to do a screenshot while doing that at the same time. The view is the same on mine (but there are only two desktops, which is one more than enough).

(P.S. Please do not tell me they are not called "desktops", which someone said in a previous thread, it literally says "desktop 1", "desktop 2", etc.)

Mac mini, macOS 13.6

Open Mission Control, hold down the Option key (don't try to tell me it's the alt key), and click the X on the Desktop you want to remove.

In Sequoia, you don't have to hold down the Option key, so I don't know if that is necessary in Sonoma. I think it was necessary at some point in the past.

Not sure. To make a Desktop, you have to go all the way to the right side of the screen and click on the + button that appears when you get to that side of the Desktop list in Mission Control.

Perhaps, but it seems pretty difficult to make happen without some effort.

Are you possibly putting apps into Full Screen (they wouldn't say "desktop 1," though, so likely not)?
