Unable to track my AirTag when I’m not nearby

I can not track my AirTag. It only shows up in FindMy when my phone is near it. When it is away from me, it just says “last seen 2 hrs ago” with last location.

AirTag tracking my phone instead of the AirTag. I just purchased two brand new AirTags. After setting these up, I noticed that the Find My app is only tracking my phone, not the AirTags. The AirTags are labeled as AirTags but the location of the item on the map is really wherever my phone is. I tried giving the AirTag to another iPhone, user and having them move around, but the Find My app is still really just tracking my iPhone, I don’t understand how people use this for tracking their cars or items in different locations. The only thing that seems to work right is the precise location only if it’s really close we’ve tried toggling Bluetooth on and off, restarting our phones, toggling, Find My on and off, making sure precise location is on. Nothing is working and I am getting very frustrated.

AirTag not working I put an AirTag in a vehicle to locate it if it is stolen. A friend of mine just took it to run an errand. When I use Find It, the information I get is six days old. My friend is in the car and has spoken to me with his iPhone yet the location is not updated. What can the problem be?

AirTag tracking not synced I have an AirTag in my truck, which is currently making its way across the U.S. on the back of a semi. When I check the location of that AirTag on three different Apple devices (iPad pro, iPhone 14, and MacBook Air), they will often show dramatically different locations and “last seen” times. For example, this morning one device reported that AirTag as “last seen 34 minutes ago” with a location 1,800 miles away. Another device showed “last seen 13 hours ago” and more than 2,000 miles away. Each one “updates” (shows the spinning wheel) and then returns the same information. Any clues?

When an AirTag is outside the Bluetooth range (~30-40') of your iPhone, it relies on the Apple Find My network which consists of millions of other iPhones. If any of these are within range of the tag, it will pick up the tag's Bluetooth signal which contains the tag's unique ID. The phone will then relay this ID, along with the phone's GPS location to the Apple's servers over an Internet connection. This is where you would see that "location" with the Find My app on your iPhone.

So, in this case, it may be that no other iPhone was nearby.
