If I put a disc in my Superdrive, it shows up on my Macbook Pro desktop, but not in Finder. I have checked the Settings for Finder.

if you have ensured that "CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices" is selected in the "locations" section of finder sidebar settings, the first thing I would try would be to hover over the word "locations" in the finder sidebar and see if the arrow is pointing to the right.
if it is pointing right, click it so that the arrow is pointing downwards and the disc will show up.

ok. so in that case I would try and relaunch finder. first, use Apple Menu > Force Quit.
and in the resulting window, select Finder and then click Relaunch.
Thanks. "Locations" is grayed out. When I hover over it, I don't get an arrow at all, let alone pointing right or down.
